About the Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) is the standard professional degree recognized throughout the world for public health practice.  The MPH Program at the University of Missouri trains practitioners, teachers, researchers, and administrators to plan, implement, and evaluate programs aimed at enhancing health in human populations through organized effort on the local, state, and national level.

All students in the MU MPH Program are educated in the core domains of public health and participate in a supervised internship in a public health agency.  The combination of coursework and practical experiences produces individuals who are highly qualified to enter the public health workforce.  In addition to the core curriculum, MU Public Health students choose one of three Concentration Areas, where they focus the program to fit their interests and skills:

A dual DVM/MPH degree allows students to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Public Health in a little over four years.  Additional dual degrees in the areas of Public Affairs, Health Administration, and Social Work are anticipated soon.

Health professionals who want to enhance their skills as part of their career development are encouraged to explore a Dean's Certificate of Graduate Study in Public Health either as a stand-alone certificate or as a first step into the MPH Program.  A number of online courses have been developed with working professionals in mind.

The Association of Schools of Public Health predicts that 250,000 new public health workers will be needed by the year 2020.  The Master of Public Health is your key to an exciting new career in a rapidly growing field!
