About the Master of Public Health
The Master of Public Health (MPH) is the standard professional degree recognized throughout the world for public health practice. The MPH Program at the University of Missouri trains practitioners, teachers, researchers, and administrators to plan, implement, and evaluate programs aimed at enhancing health in human populations through organized effort on the local, state, and national level.

All students in the University of Missouri Master of Public Health Program are educated in the core domains of public health and participate in a supervised internship in a public health agency. Through coursework and the practical experience, students will become proficient in skill areas described in the MPH Program Competencies and will end their time with the MPH Program highly qualified to enter the public health workforce.
New Concentration Area to replace Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and Public Health Policy and Administration
The Master of Public Health Program at the University of Missouri announces a new Concentration Area for MPH students: Health Promotion and Policy. This option will provide students with a solid grounding in the way that community health promotion initiatives and policy-making on the local, state, and federal level interrelate in the practice of public health. MU's unique strengths in health policy development, including its Center for Health Policy and relationship with nearby state government entities, as well as the community assessment, rural health outreach, and communications expertise of the Schools of Nursing, Social Work, Medicine, and Journalism make it well-positioned to support this focus of study. The new Concentration Area will supplant the previous Concentration Areas of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and Public Health Policy and Administration. Students interested in supplementing their plans of study with coursework in administration will have a variety of management-focused electives from which to choose and may also apply to a growing number of dual degree programs including the MPH/MPA.
The MPH Program is confident that the new Concentration Area will reflect MU's unique strengths and position our graduates well in the job market as they begin or continue their careers in public health. Please do not hesitate to contact MPH Program Associate Director Lise Saffran with any questions.
